Travel diary week 3

Day 15 -16 - 17 * Shellharbour region.

Because we stayed Stayed in Shellharbour region and Kiama for a while to do some work, load up with good energy, go for a surf every now an then, I will skip these days a head to the more adventurous part, when we are on the road again.

Day 18 * whitest beach in the world.

Adventure again! We’re leaving kiama and driving further south to Jervis bay, it’s about an 1.5 hrs drive to an extremely beautiful nature destination with lots of incredible beaches. We went to what they say is worlds whitest beach Hyams beach, i have to say the sand was whiter then i ever saw before so maybe their right, either way it looks incredible. The weather wasn’t that sunny, we are finally getting some rain after the long drought so thats very very good, we are now traveling trough the regions that were pretty bad effected by the bush fires so they can use it all! We did a bit of cruising around in Jervis bay, looked for koalas (Still didn’t find any) and ended up in Huskisson a little town next to the beach, we found a very nice spot to sleep for the night and went to bed early as we couldn’t do much because of the rain.

Day 19 * Hotel in Jervis Bay.

A good and wet morning, still raining, and if i say raining i mean RAINING! It’s a lot of rain, and that’s exactly what this country needed with all the fires, a lot of national parks are still closed, but almost all the fires should be gone now! Because of this weather we felt like treating ourselves on a nice hot shower and a hotel bed. We stayed here for the rest of the day, did all our laundry, and i can tell you that if your on the road for a while it’s a absolute blessing to find a laundry machine!

Day 20 * we’re online.

Stayed in the hotel for a day again, as we found a pretty good deal. Worked on our blog and videos again, today is the day that we are going to put it online for everyone to see, and we are so excited!! We hope you all like it so far and are enjoying our stories as much as we do. Working hard on it every day. With lots of fun making it! Please leave some feedback if you’d like, thanks a lot for supporting us.

Day 21 * Canberra.

Another day of rain, we already have 4 days of non stop raining behind us and it’s still going. As some people maybe have heard is that a lot of places in Australia are flooding right now because of the rain, the ground is so dry that it doesn’t soak in all that water in once, so yeah there is quite some water everywhere, but still very appreciated. Today we drove towards Canberra for a winery visit at Malaluka, and the only way to go inland from here is trough the mountains, quite exciting with all this rain and beautiful to see, all over the mountains there are little waterfalls who never existed before, but are just splashing down all the water now. you need to drive carefully tough, the roads are quit slippery. We enjoyed the ride and ended up in a small village called Gunning, we stayed here for the night on a free campsite, excited about tomorrow!

Day 22 * Malaluka winery.

Today is the day that we are visiting Malaluka winery, a small family owned winery in the Yass valley in the Canberra district, We are going to help them with the bottling of their 2019 wines. Unfortunately they are probably not doing a harvest this year because of the fires and the smoke damage all the grapes have, As grape vines breath at night, they soak up all the smells in the air and that comes in to the taste of the grapes as well. A smokey taste is not really what they want in a wine so this is bad news. Because of this we weren’t able to help them with the harvest like we wanted, so we only came by for one day.

We met the winemaker Sam Leyhson, who is incredible and took very good care of us. He invited us to stay the night at his place, where he made dinner for as and gave us the opportunity to taste all his wines he made in 2019.  We really enjoyed staying here and couldn’t be thankful enough for something like this.  We’ve met his cute puppy Fig who seemed to enjoy that we were around to play with the whole day. After tasting all the incredible wines, and telling travel/winemaking stories, we went to bed for a good night sleep.

23 * Yass valley.

We woke up in Yass valley, and wandered a bit around in this little town. Today a day of traveling again, because we actually wanted to go back to the ocean where we can swim and surf, and also because the way down straight from Canberra was completely covered in fires a few days ago so we decided to make our way back to the coast again, we ended up somewhere randomly in a free campsite next to the road to make some dinner and spend the night.

24 * Batemans bay.

Woke up late, had a good fruity breakfast and went on with our way back to the coast, we planned to go and see Batemans bay, and the route we took to get there was amazing, we drove straight trough the mountains with incredible views, sharp turns and high misty forests. It’s a little burnt but still beautiful to see. We arrived in Batemans bay a busy little town, nothing very special so we drove further south to Dalmeny. On our way there we saw a lot of houses & cars burnt down to the ground, forests and pieces of land where totally black, it’s so sad to see. And at this moment I’m so incredibly thankful that the fires stoped and that it’s still raining for the 6th day in a row. Arrived in Dalmeny and Chris was more then excited to see that the waves were incredible good, for me again a bit to big they were 5-6 ft, so i stayed on the beach making surfshots. Enjoyed the sun and stayed here for the night next to the beach.
