Hi there, this is the last week of our road trip to Mount Gambier, where we plan to stay for a while, to work at the winery Good Intentions for harvest 2020.
Hope you will enjoy it!

last week we stopped at Bermagui, and now we’re heading off further to South-Australlia!!!!

Day 25 * bush fires

Woke up with an incredible view over the beach in Bermagui and went for an very early morning walk at 5.00, The sunrise and the clouds on the ocean are just perfect together, lots of little sand crabs running up and down. A morning without rain. Today we are going to travel further up to Mallacoota, this was one of the most effected towns during the bush fires, and on our way there we saw kilometers full of burnt forest for hours, the town mallacoota was like a ghost town, a lot of houses, caravans, cars and tents were abandoned and a lot of houses were burnt down to the ground, the fires came even all the way till the beach, where you  see nothing else then burnt nature around you.. the people who are living in this town got evacuated by the army during the fires trough ships, the ocean was their only way out, and it’s so crazy to see the left overs of that... luckily all the fires are out now and people are starting to come back to there homes, or what is left of it. Seeing this does a lot with your mind and i think we can praise ourselves lucky that nothing like this happened to us.  I can’t imagine how afraid these people must have been, losing everything. In between all that burnt black nature there were some patches of green grass growing again, and we saw a lot of kangaroos enjoying that grass, they must have had a hard time to.. so happy to see that there were still some kangaroos who survived this all.

Day 26 * catching waves in Mallacoota

We woke up in Mallacoota still a bit weird because of all the black trees around us, we decided to go for a good morning surf, where we spotted a lot of dolphins playing around in the waves, showing the surfers how to do it. After the surf session we went on with our road trip, we need to be in Mount Gambier a bit earlier to help the wine maker out with some stuff before the harvest, so we are making our way down a bit quicker. 3 hours further drive, and crossed the border of Victoria!!! We drove to a beautiful spot called Lakes Entrance. We are staying here for the night with a beautiful view out over the harbour.

Day 27 *Melbourne

Leaving Lakes Entrance again, further south all the way to melbourne, we went to Mornington Peninsula, a beautiful coastal town with nice beaches, we stayed here for the day went out for a drink and a walk on the beach. We are starting to feel that it’s getting colder now how much we go more south. Well…. cold..... just 24c but if you come from 38 every day, it’s a big difference. We stayed the night next to the beach, with this time a beautiful sunset. Mornington Peninsula is beautiful!

Day 27 * pinguïns

Next to the beach in Mornington Peninsula, we decided to drive further south because we wanted to be in Mount Gambier as soon as possible, and it’s still a 8hrs drive from here. We stopped on our way at St. kilda beach, one of the spots that have a special species of pinguïns each year, unfortunately we didn’t saw them because it was not the season anymore, but we enjoyed the ocean life with jellyfish and puffer fish. Had a nice smoothie on the boardwalk and went on with our road trip. We decided to drive 3 hours more south to a beautiful bush campsite in the middle of nature. Kangaroos were literally next to our car eating grass and minding their own business. The evenings are getting cold now! But it’s nice to be out of the bush fire danger and in moisty land again.

Day 28 * Wallaby’s

Started the morning with a hike looking for  koalas. And drove further on the great ocean road for 3 hours to our next camping site in the Narrawong forest just in the middle of the woods. Lots of wild life like wallaby’s and colorful birds. As it’s still raining at the moment we didn’t do much the rest of the day other then enjoying nature around us. Our last spot till Mount Gambier where we will start working tomorrow.

Day 29 * Mount Gambier

It’s time to leave to mount gambier just an hour drive further.  And mount gambier is famous for it’s blue lake, thats made by volcanic craters. Arrived at Good intentions winery, and our first meeting with the winemaker Andrew was very easy and enthoustic, we started the day with helping them wiring the irrigation system, and had a good lunch after, he showed us around the winery and all the vineyards. A very nice day and good way to get to know Mount Gambier.
