Surf lessons Byron Bay.
Byron Bay is one of the better spots to learn surfing, especially at The Pass beach, because the waves are so mellow and the break is quit long. There are a lot of options here for a good surf lesson, on of the better ones I can recommend is Mojo surf Byron Bay, they have surf lessons for a whole day with a couple of days in a row, or join their surf camp trough Australia if you really want to learn how to catch a wave.
some other ones I can recommend are: soul surf school, black dog surfing, letsgo surfing. Enough surf schools to chose from here in Byron Bay!

The Pass beach

Surf level: Beginner - intermediate - Advanced

Break:  Right hand point break

One of the busiest surf spots but can be a lot of fun on a good and clean day!
If you don’t mind a party wave now and then this is one of the most consistent spots in Byron Bay.
The waves are for every surf level and are excellent for learning. The waves can get big in the back close to the rocks, for the more advanced surfers.
This wave is more an easy going longboard wave but if you prefer a shortboard it’s also possible. One way or another this spot is lots of fun!

Wategos beach

Surf level: intermediate - advanced

Break: right & left hand point break

A little bit further than the point and less busy there is Wategos beach with a consistent point break with a long Hawaiian style break (which means straight). Be careful for the strong rip currents, rocks, dolphins and sharks. Not always suitable for beginners, but on a small day a good place to train and practice you paddling technique.

This is also a long board wave.

Tallows beach

Tallows Beach

Surf level: intermediate - advanced

Break: right & left handed beach break

Also a popular spot in Byron Bay, with more powerful and wilder waves, a heavy rip current so not very suitable for beginners if the waves are higher, usually a shortboard wave but on the smaller waves you can surf a longboard too.

Also keep an eye out for sharks.

Cozy corner

Surf level: beginner - intermediate - advanced

Break: right & left handed beach break

At the northern end of Tallows beach you have a little spot called cozy corner. This spot is a bit more protected against northern winds, and can get very busy. On smaller days suitable for beginners just be aware of the rip currents and rocks.

Clarks Beach

Surf level: beginner - intermediate - advanced

Break: right & left handed break

Only suitable for beginners on small days! Powerful beach breaks with waves that can get quite high. Most of the times not very busy so it can be a nice escape from the pass, for the better surfers that don’t like the business. Be careful with the rip currents they can be very strong.

This wave is better suited for short boards.

The wreck

Surf level: intermediate - advanced

Break: right & left handed beach break

Just on the left side of the main beach, you will see a old ship wreck sticking out of the water. A mellow but fast beach break and less strong rips then at Clarks beach, can get high on good days and sometimes busy. Suitable for shortboards or anything up to 8.0 ft.

Broken Head

Surf level: beginner - intermediate - advanced

Break: right hand point & beach break

A bit further out of Byron also a popular spot because of both breaks at one beach. The waves can get high here and very suitable for long and short boards.

A place to have lots of fun!

What to bring?

  • A good mood and positive vibe, everything will work better if your confident!

  • A good surfboard, if you don’t have your own there are a lot of places to rent a good board.

  • A wetsuit for the colder days, for the warmer days in the summer a bathing suit will be good enough.

  • Wax & sunscreen, you will burn really fast if your in the water, make sure you put on sunscreen thats good for you and the ocean, same for the wax. If you want to read more about sunscreen & wax that’s good for the ocean read my other blog.
